Everydae is like Sundae

I got 99 problems but Mr Whippy ain't one..
Good article in the paper today about ice cream vans by Joe Moran telling the tale of their sad decline.
I don’t agree with Joe about how to save ICV's by turning them into tasteful mobile organic sorbet dispensers isn’t the way forward. Surely their appeal lies in the fact that they are gaudy and loud and that they sell things that’s aren't good for you but strangely are.
Isn’t the anarchism of one Mr Whippy worth a hundred lorry loads of taste the difference sunblushed hand picked vine grown kumquat and mung bean frozen yoghurt?

If you need a fix of these mobile pop art explosions have a look here.

lastly I can hear someone playing a tinny version of “Clair d’lune” so mine’s a 99 with juice and nuts, the little’ns will have a cider lolly and a screw ball and Our Nan will have an Oyster with Cornish not whippy and be careful crossing that road.

Cigerette lighter, radio air con, giant Ice cream

Juice and Nuts
Another half heard story on the radio this morning
Apparently even with higher fuels prices in the States pick-up trucks are still selling well, I can only assume it’s because the optional extras are so great!

On the GPIC front I did a promotional drive and out little group has got some even cooler pictures now.

Sauce, nuts and sprinkles......

You just can't lick'em

What could be better than a 99 on a hot day well may be cider lolly, but we won’t get cute?

A while ago I started a little flickr group “Giant Plastic Ice cream cones”. We are a select bunch 19 members and rising. This week the delightfully monikered “Kitten’s Arse” posted a number of Brighton based pics including this collision of ace British traditional fare e.g. a Wimpy and a 99.

I won’t go on or else I’ll slip into sub Ian Sinclair psyco-geopgraphy but mapping the position of every GPIC may yet tell us more about this occasionally sunny little island than perhaps we at first thought!!!!

Monday with Sauce and sprinkles

Mr Whippy in Soho....

I do like these I must be into double figures by now with them. If you fancy a lick and you're in the centre of town this ones at the bottom of Charing Cross road!

I think the old lady I saw in Gaby's went there after her meal to cool off, she finished off her falafel and then polished off the dish very hot chillie sauce like it was tomato soup, hardcore!
UPDATE:
I set up a Flickr group featuring pics of Plastic Ice cream cones here. Join if you want to and post your own pics.

The boy looked at Johnny
!

I relaxed my fatwa against taking pictures inside gigs to take this rubbish picture of Johnny Marr playing with the Cribs on friday night at Brixton Academy! He really lifted their set, mainly because everyone can sing "Hang the DJ" and they can't sing anything by the Cribs or the rest of groups playing! It was a good gig except we where in the balcony and not only can't you stand up, you have strange cut off view of the stage.

Brighton rocks!

Hopefully this won't be disrespectful considering my last post but here's my homage to Bernd & Hilla Becher. We went to Brighton yesterday and the place is full of plastic giant ice cream cones!

This montage was inspired partly by the 99 below ( and partly by my love of giant plastic food related advertising!). Looks like a fairly normal 99, cone, flake, ice cream. Yes, but notice the curved mounds of ice crean not your usual sharp ridges. The reason for this (sorry I got this second hand, thanks R) is that it comes frozen as whole, not out of machine but all in one from the fridge. It was delish but my heart is saddened that Britain's seaside tea stall staff are so de-skilled that they can't make a "fresh" 99.
Monday 23rd Update:
R (Britain's 8 th Best Mini Golfer) has just pointed out that the "real" 99 I'm holding looks less real than the giant plastic ones. I can assure you it was tasty in that mr softie way and even the cone was crisp!
