Boy defended mother using toy light sabre
An 11-year-old boy defended his mother by hitting an attacker with a toy light sabre, police said yesterday. The man, in his 30s, fled after being confronted by the youngster outside a bakery in Swardeston, near Norwich, officers said. Police said the boy hit the man with his toy after the man punched and verbally abused his mother as she approached her 4x4 car. Officers are appealing for witnesses to the attack, which happened at about 11am on December 22. PC Allan Jennings, of Norfolk police, said: "The incident caused quite a commotion and it is unlikely it would have gone unnoticed."

Me Snow Go

It may be just me but I don’t think this lot understand their audience; it’s an ad for a week long ski singles event. I can’t decide whether it’s the plot for a bad romcom, a disaster movie, a bad porn film or just a plain nightmare.
Surely ski holidays are the sort of thing impressively cheery sick makingly organised couples do, you know the sort with ironed jeans, who read travel guides all the time and say they are going “trekking” in Patagonia when they mean “walking” and who always have a brother in Singapore, not single types.

Isn’t the point of dating services to pair people off precisely so they can turn all smug and pack their freshly pressed Levi’s and head of to Chamonix? Sorry that should be Albania; smug “independent” travellers never go anywhere “obvious” like Chamonix they always go somewhere “off piste” as it were.

Also skiing involves a degree of poise and self assurance, it’s bad enough trying not to look a fool getting off a ski lift, but trying to do it and impress half of Europe would be a killer.

Also how do you eat fondue on a date?
How sexy is a smashed kneecap?
And then there’s the bobble hat issue.

It will probably be like when we use to go to “silver blades” ice rink in Sheff, except it’ll be some flash Austrian whizzing about instead of that posey kid from Rotherham who could skate backwards dead good and that.
Sadly, I think I might do what I did then make the equivalent of a couple of turns of the ice and then head off to play Defender in the cafe.
God I’m a misery.

Ps. Isn’t all this just cat nip for that most slimy of breeds: the ski instructor, “what me Angelo the impossibly accomplished bronzed former slalom champ alone in a crap Swiss disco with all these drunk single women (oh and a couple of blokes who couldn’t even get to level 5 on missile command) what were they thinking…..”
Speaking of smug couples here's a gruesome twosome
Build your own Defender console it's easier than you think honest !

LDB Update

I promise I've only checked once today, but what I must stop calling my "little film" has had now had over 17,400 views, hurrah for me and hurrah for clockwork fans everywhere!
The best recent youtube comment is :

"this is so dumb i still like jesus "
Oh and I 've had an offer to buy the little tin fella as well. But if I sell him who will star in the Easter sequel " The Funky Chicken Drummer....."

another one bites the dust....

Let’s just gets some things straight….

I knew my resolution to be more good humoured wouldn’t last long, what did Lord Cardigan say?
“plans never survive first contact with the enemy…”

No IDea!
On the radio this morning, Parliament proposed making losing our ID info illegal. Which is classic nonsense, firstly it’s probably already covered by several laws. Secondly, isn’t this just further softening us up for ID cards? Lastly where’s the law fining and sacking government minister and senior civil servants for buying crap and expensive computer systems?

The high price of going nowhere.
It’s the New Year so they have put travel fares up. So I have to pay £1 or so more for half the service as they’ve closed the East London line for estimated 3 years!
Obviously the GLA are spinning this as a cut in fares because it’s only travel cards that have gone up!
“The cost of One Day Travelcards and Travelcard Season Tickets will rise in line with inflation as these fares also apply on National Rail, and the agreement of the Train Operating Companies would be necessary for any lower fares.”

My answer to this is why can’t New Labour just tell the rail companies to cut fares? Why are huge government contracts unenforceable? It should go like this;

Dear Mr. franchiser,
Please run this train line, we want clean, reliable, un-crowded trains for which you will get sum X. “

“Oh you’ve not done this well, do it or you will lose sum x, oh and your chief exec will lose his bonus and or his house.”

“Oh you still haven’t done it well you won’t get any government work ever again.”
Sadly this is not the case. New Labour is strange it wants to tell me what to do in my personal life, not smoke, not drink, give away my privacy (ID cards) but it won’t turn round to a train company and say you are not getting anymore more money until you do what we agreed/would like done.

You’d think that with the Olympics they’d be making a show at running an integrated transport system but no.

Also why along with bank charges, do the fares go up when everyone’s skint? Presumably just to add to misery of the dark mornings.

FAB TV

Adult kid’s telly!
BBC 4 was full of Gerry Anderson creations tonight.
I loved Thundstingrayscarlet 90 as a kid, but I do worry they were sending out mixed messages.

Firstly the future will look great but will fundamentally DYSTOPIAN; apart from the Thunderbirds themselves any new piece of kit will crash/explode on its test flight. Basically smash your toys children

Secondly the crypto fascist world government will employ polyglot supermodels to pilot its air force and empower them to blow up motorway bridges on a whim.

That no women will ever match the standards set by Aquamarina or TinTin and especially Lady Penelope. Not only was lady P hot (was she based on Faye Dunaway), she seemed like a really cool date too, here’s two quotes from tonight’s French based plots:

“In Paris I always drink Pernod”
After said Pastis gets shot out of her hand by her car!
“Oh how tiresome it looked such a pretty Pernod”
And she gets to smoke and party with the Shadows!

Oh and before anyone says anything Scott Tracy (T1) was a showboating fop and it was Virgil (T2) who was the cool hard working one.

Bono was right.........

......nothing changes on New Year's Day

oh and grimly racist toys

The bloody things get everywhere this one was in the window of a shop in a very pleasant little cobbled Dales village hmmm.

Happy New Year
